Somerby Farm

Enviko was first consulted in late 2011 by the Brown’s, Meikle Ussie, regarding the suitability of the site as a potential for wind energy development.

A period of feasibility followed whilst different site layouts and turbine options were in discussion. Once these options had been finalised, the development went through the pre-screening process, allowing the local authorities (in this case Highland Council) to provide an indication of the required supporting information.

With the candidate turbine selected, (Turbowinds T400) further Environmental studies were undertaken by third party consultants such as:

  • Ornithological Assessments
  • Zones of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV)
  • Landscape + Visual Assessment
  • Communications Infrastructure
  • Transport and Access Studies

Planning Consent was achieved for one T400, 400kW Wind Turbine at Somerby Farm at a local area committee on the 3rd December 2012.

Future of the Development

The anticipated commissioning date is estimated to be around mid-2014, depending on discussions with Scottish and Southern Energy.

At present the project is in the initial stages of discussion with the developer of community owned renewable developments, ‘sharenergy’ (www.sharenergy.coop). Providing the coming stages of the project go well, this development could then take the role of a 100% community owned project, providing the landlord an attractive rental income, whilst delivering income/profit to the cooperative members – a positive development for the local community, where locals and members reap the benefits of this project.

Enviko currently have many medium to large scale wind projects, at all stages of the development process.
